Mocha Marketing founder leads creative workshop at Festival of Enterprise

Entrepreneur, Founder and Managing Director of Mocha Marketing, Gemma Orton, was the leader of a creative workshop at the Peter Jones Foundation Festival of Enterprise on Friday 28th June which featured an array of exciting panelists.

The event, better known as EntFest, was hosted at the University of Buckingham. Now in its second year, the festival boasts a unique celebration of enterprise and entrepreneurship which bring students, business leaders, investors and innovators together for a day of networking and learning.

Gemma Orton was the perfect pick to chair the “Turning Creativity into a Career” workshop, as the last five years has seen her build up a marketing and communications empire, win numerous awards and announce a major rebrand. Mocha Marketing, which is based in Leicestershire, is solid proof of how being an entrepreneur pays off.

The workshop was organised to allow students to come along to listen, ask questions and take away advice on what they can do to become an entrepreneur. The panel consisted of Craig Hill, an entrepreneur who found success on Dragons Den and is now the co-founder of Landscape for Learning, Samantha Hornsby and Mae Yip who are Co-founders of EricFest.

The final panellist to be added was the 23-year-old CEO of Supa Network, Bejay Mulenga. Bejay, who recently became the youngest person to receive the award for Enterprise Promotion by Her Majesty the Queen.

The workshop kicked off with Gemma explaining to the students what they could hope to take away from it and encouraged them to ask as many questions as they could of the successful panel. Each panellist gave a short introduction of themselves and were posed questions by Gemma, such as ‘at what point did you realise that you could turn your creative skill in to a career’? Each question aimed to encourage the students to think broadly about their career choices. A common theme amongst the panellist’s answers was that their careers had plenty of highs and lows without a smooth journey in sight; something which Gemma is passionate about letting our students of the future know should be expected and to embrace every stage.

Reflecting on the event, Gemma has said:

“I have ended the day on a high after spending it with such enthusiastic and motivated young entrepreneurs. Not only was it a fantastic opportunity to talk to other successful business owners, I have also learnt a lot from working with our stars of the future.

“My eyes have been opened by The Peter Jones Foundation and the inspirational work that they do to make entrepreneurship a choice for our next generation. It was an absolute honour to be introduced in EntFest and it was so inspiring to see the interest that these students were taking in the build-up of our businesses. It’s great to see that there are so many young stars out there wishing to become entrepreneurs. I’m so happy that we were able to give them advice and play a small part in shaping their futures.”

The day also featured a Peter Jones Enterprise Academy (PJEA) Graduation and a Dragons Den style final for the National Entrepreneur of the Year competition. Set against a festival backdrop, EntFest included music, entertainment, a youth market, food and prize-giving.
