Miss Leicestershire revealed as a new Hope Against Cancer Ambassador

Millie Richardson, who competed for and won the title of Miss Leicestershire on May 31st has been named as an ambassador for Leicestershire based charity, Hope Against Cancer.

Alongside being an ambassador, the 17-year-old from Broughton Astley has been raising money for Hope Against Cancer, as well as a Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia group whilst running her own make-up business and preparing to head to the finals of the national competition, Miss England.

Millie chose to work with Hope Against Cancer because it is a charity close to her heart, with having family members who are currently battling the disease. So far, she has raised over £600 for the combined charities and has been working on raising money to complete a 22-mile sponsored swim, which is the length of the English Channel.

Talking about Hope Against Cancer and what it means to her, Millie said:

“It feels amazing to be an ambassador for Hope, I feel really proud to be able to use my title to raise awareness and money for an amazing cause.”

During her time as an ambassador, Millie will be going behind the scenes at Hope Against Cancer not only with regards to fundraising, but also with what happens in the office, at the University of Leicester and at the Clinical Trials Facility. This is where the innovative research takes place, to improve treatments and find better outcomes for those with cancer.

Hope Against Cancer fund cutting edge research and have made clinical trials available to local people. Nigel Rose, the Chief Executive at Hope Against Cancer said:

“We’re over the moon to have Millie as an ambassador, it’s great to see such a young person using their title to raise funds for a cause like Hope. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Millie; it’s been great watching her progress in her competition.”

Millie will continue to delve into the world of fundraising after preparing for the next rounds in the Miss England competition, which include Miss Charity, Miss Popularity, Miss Publicity, Eco Fashion, Miss Sports, Miss Swimwear, Miss Talent, General Knowledge, Miss Beautiful Hair and Miss TV Presenter.

The finals of Miss England 2019 will take place between July 31st and August 1st in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This will see 55 participants from across the UK compete to be crowned as Miss England.
