First in East Midlands to take on housebuilding degree

A Leicestershire woman is one of the first in the East Midlands to take on an innovative new housebuilding degree.

Beth Salisbury, aged 19, from Ravenstone, is in her first year of the ‘Construction Management – Housebuilding’ degree, which has been introduced by Redrow Homes in partnership with Coleg Cambria and Liverpool John Moores University.

A Trainee Quantity Surveyor at Redrow Homes East Midlands, Beth completed her A-levels before deciding a job in the construction industry was for her, and applied for the degree.

Beth said:

“I was first attracted to the degree because it’s a great opportunity to continue learning and broaden my knowledge of the housebuilding industry, while creating the building blocks of my career at Redrow Homes. I’m now part of the East Midlands division, and divide my time between working and studying – it’s the perfect balance of education, while gaining hands-on knowledge.

“My degree covers the entire housebuilding industry from designing and building, to health and safety and surveying. I learn new things every day, each week is a new challenge – and it’s wonderful to know that the work I’m doing is playing a part in building somebody’s future home. For now, I’m focused on getting the most out of my degree and learning from those I work alongside at Redrow Homes, but my dream is to one day be managing director of my own housebuilding division.”

Martyn Pask, Regional Director for Redrow Homes East Midlands, said:

“The new degree has allowed Beth to start a career in the housebuilding industry, learning from colleagues with years of valuable experience, while also studying and developing the skills she needs to become a quantity surveyor. We are thrilled to have Beth in our team, she is a real asset to our division and we’re keen to support her progression and to ensure she thrives as part of the Redrow Homes family.”

The creation of this degree is further evidence of how Redrow Homes values its people and demonstrates the commitment which, in 2016, helped Redrow become the first housebuilder to achieve the Quality Mark from the British Institute of Learning and Development. Redrow has also been a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer for five consecutive years.

The Redrow business has circa 2,400 direct employees and around 15% of those are apprentices, graduates or sponsored trainees. For more information about Redrow career opportunities and training, visit
