David Lloyd Clubs Derby appoint key charity partner

David Lloyd Clubs Derby has chosen local cancer charity Annabel’s Angels as its key charity partner for the next twelve months.

As part of DL Giving - a recently launched charity initiative by David Lloyd Clubs aimed at giving back to local causes, Annabel’s Angels was voted the charity of choice by members from David Lloyd Clubs Derby.

The Derby health and fitness club, based near Pride Park Stadium, initiated a social media campaign to determine the members’ top three charities. A token box was then positioned in the reception area of the club enabling members to vote for the local charity they most wanted to support.

“David Lloyd Clubs have been helping families lead healthy and active lives for more than 30 years,” said Nicky Alsop, General Manager for David Lloyd Clubs Derby. “DL Giving gives us a chance to work with and support local charities and causes and it was important that our members chose a charity close to their hearts.”

Launched as a registered Charitable Trust in April 2014, Annabel’s Angels raises funds to support local families living with cancer in and around the Derby area. With a strong link to the cancer services team at the Royal Derby Hospital, the volunteer led charity has so far supported over 200 local families.

“We are looking forward to our charity partnership with Annabel’s Angels and plans for our future fundraising activities together are well underway,” commented Nicky. “I am delighted to confirm that we will also be supporting the other two charities voted in the top three by our members – Umbrella and Me & Dee.”

Annabel’s Angels Chair, Simon Hancox, commented,

“We are delighted that David Lloyd Club members chose to support our charity and we’re really excited to be working with David Lloyd Clubs Derby.

“As a local charity totally dependent on public donations, building charity partnerships with local companies is key. Not only does it help greatly with our fundraising activities but it helps raise awareness too. By joining forces, we can support even more local families affected by cancer.”

Annabel’s Angels is led by a team of ten dedicated trustees and relies on a team of committed supporters to help out with fundraising events organised throughout the year. The charity operates a grant programme accessible to local families to help remove some of the financial pressures and improve the quality of life for local people in Derby living with cancer.

David Lloyd Clubs Derby offers state-of-the-art gym facilities fitted with the latest equipment and technology to meet the latest fitness trends. The club has twelve tennis courts, two swimming pools, a spa and three exercise studios – including the newly built Blaze studio combining cardiovascular training with strength, boxing and martial arts.
