Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Avant Homes launches 'Day to Make a Difference' initiative to support local communities

Staff at Midlands homebuilder Avant Homes downed their tools and stepped away from their keyboards this week as the entire company donated a days’ worth of time to schools across the region.

The ‘Day to Make a Difference’ initiative was held on June 12 saw everyone from construction workers and sales advisors to apprentices and directors, spend the day with three local primary schools undertaking a variety of refurbishment projects that will benefit the school children in the long term.

The 140-strong staff got their hands dirty as they gave outdoor areas a makeover, transformed ponds, cleaned up nature spaces and more.

The team split up into groups as they travelled to Nottingham, Market Harborough, and Anstey to work with Larkfields Infant School, Farndon Fields Primary School and Woolden Hill Primary school on the projects.

In Nottingham, they picked up paintbrushes as they transformed the school’s outdoor activity area, in time for the summer term for children to enjoy during playtime.

Larkfields Infant School headteacher, Jo Cuthbert, said:

“The team from Avant Homes were simply fantastic! They transformed a very tired and scruffy outdoor play area into a beautiful and  inspiring outdoor learning space. I cannot thank them enough.”

In Market Harborough and Anstey, members of the team worked on outdoor ponds by giving them a clean, planted new greenery to attract more wildlife as well as renovated the nature areas.

Day to Make a Difference is a new annual community initiative launched by Avant Homes with the aim of supporting schools, charities and not-for profit organisations by offering its services, materials and hands on help for those that need it most.

Avant Homes Midlands managing director, Tim Brickley, said:

“At Avant Homes we recognise it is our duty to act as a responsible business and a good neighbour that supports the communities in which we build. We want to give back to those who need it most and we were loved spending the day working with three local primary schools.

“We were really pleased to be able to give our time and share our expertise in assisting in the refurbishment of the outdoor areas of the schools so that children can continue to enjoy and learn in them for years to come.”
