Armsons appointed to work on luxury student accommodation scheme in Derby

Derby-based Armsons have been appointed cost consultants on the scheme to create new luxury student accommodation on Lodge Lane in Derby.

The scheme, which will be known as Urban Lofts, is being developed by Urban Sister, which was established in 2018 by Gillian and Ruth Hobbs. They have been working together for 18 years on residential and buy to let refurbishments predominately in the SE and SW areas of London and have now expanded into the Midlands.

They specialise in bringing buildings in urban areas back to life through beautiful design and have now expanded their portfolio to incorporate the commercial conversion of the former Majority House on Lodge Lane into luxury student accommodation.

Planning permission was granted in August 2018 for the scheme, which will see the conversion of the previously empty office block in the heart of Derby’s student district into three apartments each with six en-suite bedrooms.

Urban Lofts are inspired by New York Loft developments and are designed for Derby University students who want to have a secure home, in the very heart of where students want to live.

The scheme has been designed by TUK Surveyors Ltd and the Contractors for the scheme are A & S Enterprises, based in Burton on Trent.

Work on the scheme has now started on site with completion scheduled for mid-August 2019.

Commenting on the scheme, Sally Walters, Director at Armsons, said:

“Armsons are excited to have been appointed to work on this project for Urban Sister alongside Contractors A&S Enterprises as they expand their residential and buy to let business in the region.

“The new student accommodation is a great opportunity to make use of the empty office block and create more high-quality accommodation for Derby university students.

“We look forward to working with Gillian and Ruth, who over the past 18 years have demonstrated their dedication to improving buildings with their positive and contemporary approach to interiors.

“Urban Sisters were delighted to bring back to use this long-term unused office block and create an environment for students that is inspirational for them to learn and live in. The whole extended team has worked incredibly hard to achieve this incredible bespoke finish for us.”
