Communities welcomed at college as Arts Festival launches

A wealth of creative talents will be emerging from West Nottinghamshire College this month as the end of term advances and final shows and projects are being showcased.
The first of the talent will be coming this week courtesy of first year National Foundation Diploma Acting students when they stage their promenade version of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar on Wednesday (12 June) from 7.30pm in the college’s Create Theatre.
It will profile the dangerous place which is the Rome estate where enemies should be kept close, but friends much closer. When Julius Caesar returns victorious from his latest territorial battle his days are numbered, and when his end comes it is at the hands of those he most trusted.

The following week, first and second year musical theatre BTEC Diploma students will stage a production called Year of the Women! on Tuesday 18 June at 7pm in the Create Theatre.
Students will take the audience on a journey of scenes and songs from some of their favourite shows in the Year of the Woman. With a cast of 13 females, this performance brings some real girl power to musical theatre with plenty of sass thrown in for good measure. Tickets cost £4 each or £3 for concessions.
The final theatre production comes courtesy of second year BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts students on Thursday 20 June at 7pm. Machinal by Sophie Treadwell is a 1928 play inspired by the real-life case of convicted and executed murderer Ruth Snyder. This powerful expressionist drama examines the dependent status of women in the 1920s America and the hell of being trapped in a loveless marriage. Tickets cost £5 or £4 for concessions.
The week concludes with the visual art and design students’ Art Festival 2019 launch on Thursday 20 June from 6-8pm. Final pieces of work by over a hundred students will be on display in a walk-around gallery with live music as entertainment and drinks provided.
