Nottinghamshire business leads the way in talking about mental health

Property services company SDL Group put a spotlight on mental health during Mental Health Awareness Week (13th – 19th May) to get its people talking about the important issue.

The company, based in Chilwell’s Chetwynd Business Park, had a full week of activities planned to educate all of its people to be mindful about their own mental health as well as helping their colleagues too.

The week got off to a flying start as posters showcasing a variety of facts and symptoms of poor mental health were put up all around SDL Group central offices, in both Chilwell and Birmingham, where employees were urged to ‘Spot the Symptoms’. This was followed with ‘Tips to Take Care of Yourself’, where a video was created by the company internally and showcased throughout the day in the company’s canteen – watch it here.

Mid-way through the week, SDL Group hosted an ‘I Got Out of Bed Today’ event, where their people were encouraged to come dressed in their pyjamas to highlight the challenges those with mental health issues can face on a daily basis. Those who took part donated money to Mind.

The back end of the week focused on informing its people on both how to provide and receive help if either they or a colleague are struggling to manage their mental health.

Helen Ellis, SDL Group director of people, comments:

“We wanted to get as many people as possible talking about to about their mental health. Just like physical health, we all have mental health, and it is vital we look after it. The activities we have done during Mental Health Awareness Week are just the start of our future plans to support our people with their mental health, and we are currently looking of ways to make it better for everyone.”
