Nottingham-based cafe delighted after receiving a slice of leading developers' community fund

A charity café located in Nottinghamshire is raising funds to purchase the building their organisation is based in and has received a donation from leading developers, Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes has donated £1,000 from its Community Fund to Rumbletums Café, a charity based on Victoria Street in Kimberley.

The Community Fund aims to donate £1,000 each month to a charity or organisation within the housebuilder’s operational areas to support the activities carried out in the local area.

Rumbletums Café was the housebuilder’s Community Fund nomination in the month of April and will use the donation to purchase the building they are currently located in.

The charity seeks to help young adults with learning disabilities gain confidence and experience in a work place environment.

The café’s trainees serve in front of house or work in the kitchen, whilst being supported by staff and experienced volunteers.

Rumbletums also hosts a number of social events including film nights, discos, open-mic nights, as well as a support group for parents and carers.

“We wish to express our sincere thanks to everyone at Barratt and David Wilson Homes for the generous gift we have received and for making this donation possible,” Derek Gardiner, Chair of Trustees at Rumbletums Café said.

“We are presently working to raise funds to purchase the building we are currently located at on Victoria Road in Kimberley.

“The housebuilders’ kind donation will help us to continue and develop the good work we undertake here at Rumbletums.”

The charity was nominated for the Community Fund by Liz McCarthy, a Barratt and David Wilson Homes employee, who wanted to support a cause in her local area.

She said:

“Rumbletums Café is a great asset to the community that strives to make real progress for those it helps, especially young people with learning difficulties.

“It’s wonderful that we can give back to the charity with this donation and help them raise the funds they need to purchase the building they are currently located in.”

Chris Southgate, Managing Director at Barratt and David Wilson Homes North Midlands, said:

“It’s always wonderful to see how our donations to the local community can help charities and organisations improve and progress.

“As the country’s largest housebuilder we are committed to creating a positive legacy. We want to lead the industry not just in the quality of the homes and developments we build, but also in our work with charities and good causes throughout the UK.”
