Grantham-based lawyer selected for leading national legal role

A personal injury solicitor from Grantham law firm JMP Solicitors has been elected for a top national legal role as part of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

With 40 years of legal experience, Neil McKinley of JMP will join the APIL executive committee, leading the 3,600-member not-for-profit organisation in campaigning for justice of injured claimants.

Having joined the organisation back in the early 1990s when it was formed, Neil is one of the longest standing members of APIL, previously serving on the executive committee from 1998 until 2001.

Back in 2017 he was made a Fellow of APIL, a position held by experienced practitioners of personal injury law, of which there are only 129 in the whole of the UK.

Elections take place annually for the APIL executive committee and each potential committee member needs to be nominated by two APIL members. Neil was nominated by managing director of JMP Solicitors and APIL senior litigator Ian Howard, as well as the president of APIL.

On his newly elected position, Neil said: “It’s an honour to have been elected as part of the executive committee, having been a longstanding member of APIL for over 25 years and an executive committee member in the past.

“I have always enjoyed being part of the organisation, attending regional meetings, workshops, lectures and conferences to learn more about what I can do as a solicitor to help cases in this sector.

“My aim as a member and Fellow of APIL has always been to lobby for the organisation and I will use the opportunities and knowledge open to me in this position to support my fellow lawyers and fight for claimants to ensure that they get the appropriate compensation.”

There are five other APIL members at JMP Solicitors, including managing director Ian Howard, director Samantha Towle, senior associate solicitor Christine Bowerman, chartered legal executive Ray Butler

and solicitor Elizabeth Royall.

Neil has been employed at JMP Solicitors since 2016. He specialises in accident claims and industrial disease claims at the firm and has litigated and advised on hundreds of asbestos related claims.
