Russell staff aiming for charity goals

Russell Roof Tiles staff are taking to the pitch at the Pirelli Stadium, home of the Brewers, on the 10th May.

It’s their first-time taking part in The Burton Albion Corporate Five-a-Side Tournament where the Russell Roof Tiles team will be playing other businesses in the name of fundraising.  

The Burton Albion Corporate Five-a-Side Tournament (sponsored by Booker Wholesale) offers a chance for teams to play on the same pitch that has seen Nigel Clough’s Brewers team beat Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Burnley this season and where Euro Under 17s games were played last summer.

Russell Roof Tiles team includes Ross Hayward, James Pendleton, Michael Palmer, Alan Young, Dan Hancox, Scott Summers, Liam Parsons and Gordon McKinnon. Their two coaches are Managing Director, Andrew Hayward and Commercial Services Director, Paul McLoughlin.

With two sites on Nicholson Way and Wetmore Lane in Burton, Russell Roof Tiles is already linked with the Brewers, having been the main sponsors of the ‘East Stand’ at the Pirelli Stadium from the 2016/2017 season to the current 2018/2019 season. The manufacturer also supports the Brewers thriving U15 football team.

The Russell Roof Tiles team is guaranteed to play a minimum of four games (60 minutes playing time). Group winners will contest semi-finals and finals. The Russell Roof Tiles even have their own specially designed kit for the event. More than that, though, they’re keen to help out a crucial organisation.

The Russell Roof Tiles team has nominated Acorns Children’s Hospice as their charity of choice to support at the match. As a network of children’s hospices, Acorns provide care to life-limited and life-threatened children, and their families, across the heart of England. Acorns has three specialist hospices located across the West Midlands, where they care for 30 babies, children and their families.

Whatever money their five-a-side line-up raises, Russell Roof Tiles promises to match it, as part of their Pitching for Pennies scheme. Since the announcement of this charity campaign at the start of 2019, staff have really gotten stuck in. Five employees will be heading to Skegness to join the ‘Great British Clean Up’ in September. They’ll be clearing up plastic and waste that could harm local Marine Wildlife, and hope to raise £1,000.

Bruce Laidlaw, Operations Director and Nikki Rowbotham, HR Manager at Russell Roof Tiles, also got involved. Bruce took on a 1.5k swimathon, while Nikki gave up sugar for a month. Combined they raised an impressive £500 for Cancer Research.
