War memorial for local village thanks to British Legion and Forterra

Building products manufacturer Forterra has worked closely with the Royal British Legion over the past year to bring to fruition a new World War One memorial, which has recently been unveiled in Edwinstowe near Mansfield.

Team Leader Nigel Jackson and Operations Manager Matt Mendham, of Forterra’s Bison Precast facility in Hoveringham, met with members of the Edwinstowe branch of the British Legion and people from the local community in Edwinstowe village centre earlier this month. Together they unveiled the new £5000 memorial to mark the 2018 centenary of the end of World War One.

The Edwinstowe British Legion, with the collaboration of Nigel Jackson, established a sub-committee over a year ago for the planning and design of the memorial. They jointly briefed

and advised the Forterra draughtsman who designed the lectern-style piece, which has been made from granite imported from Italy. Forterra additionally made a donation towards the memorial’s costs last year, with the British Legion also working hard to raise funds.

Nigel said:

“We are very proud to have helped unveil Edwinstowe’s new First World War memorial, which has come together successfully after more than a year of planning and fundraising. We at Forterra are happy to have been able to work with and offer our support to the Edwinstowe branch of the British Legion throughout the design and production process.”
