Notts County Football in the Community appoints new Chief Executive, Ian Boyd

Nottingham-based charity, Notts County Football in the Community, has unveiled new Chief Executive Ian Boyd as the charity celebrates its 30th year in operation.

Ian joins Football in the Community with a background in youth, community and sports development - having previously worked across the UK as Youth Projects Manager at City YMCA London, Youth Programmes Manager within Scotland-based Columba 1400 and Area Manager Central at Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

Within these roles he was responsible for engaging with youth and communities in order to deliver transformational projects. From homelessness hostels, to youth centres and mentoring programmes, his work has focused on empowering others whilst aiming to keep delivery sustainable through effective partnerships and business development.

Ian takes up the role of CEO at Football in the Community during the charity’s 30th year with a clear focus on driving success over the coming years as an independent charity, whilst working in close collaboration with Notts County Football Club in order to engage with and transform the local community - as he goes on to explain.

"This year the charity celebrates a fantastic milestone and throughout its 30 years in operation, Football in the Community has changed the lives of many people across Nottinghamshire and established itself as a reputable local community organisation,” says Ian.

“Our long-term aim is to provide high quality, accessible, life changing opportunities through sport and physical activity - improving people’s health, education, confidence and skills, increasing positive behaviours and bringing enjoyment to the people we support” he adds.

Football in the Community manages and operates the Portland Leisure Centre - a Nottingham-based community leisure centre in the Meadows with its own swimming pool, sports hall, gym, courts and wider sporting facilities. The centre is the charity’s hub for programme delivery - ensuring people from the Meadows and the wider Nottingham community can benefit from trusted support and expertise on a regular basis.

Ian is confident of a bright future for Football in the Community thanks to its range of projects and high quality facilities at the Portland Centre. He hopes that both the charity and the football club can continue to work closely to benefit the local community and achieve mutual success.

“We stand side by side with our friends and colleagues at Notts County FC and look to reassure partners, funders and beneficiaries that as an independent charity, we are on secure foundations. We look forward to operating as the charitable arm of Notts County FC for many years to come, growing in strength as we continue to work in partnership to serve the Nottinghamshire community."

The local community is invited to join Football in the Community’s 30th birthday celebrations at its annual community day on Saturday 23rd March with the theme of #onebigteam - celebrating the charity’s positive impact thanks to close collaboration with its partners and participants.

This year’s community day will also tie into Notts County Football Club’s 125th anniversary of winning the FA Cup. Visitors will be able to meet the FA Cup trophy at the Portland Centre from 11am - 12pm, take part in family activities from 12pm - 2.30pm and then enjoy Notts County’s crucial fixture against Exeter City at Meadow Lane from 3pm.
