Women in STEM Event Showcases Future Careers

To celebrate International Womens Day 2019, pupils from four local schools joined students from Derby College for a special event showcasing the career opportunities available to women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and construction.

The event at the Johnson Building – part of the Roundhouse Technical and Professional Skills College – was attended by pupils from Ecclesbourne, Littleover, Heanor Gate and Derby Pride schools.

It was organised by the College’s work experience team and attended by a wide range of local companies and organisations.

Women who are leading the field in STEM careers locally and nationally talked about their experiences and practical activities were organised by companies including RDS Global, Toyota, Robertston Construction and Code Club.

Derby College Group Deputy Principal April Hayhurst said:

“There is a world of training and career opportunities available in STEM subjects and I hope that this event inspired young women to aim high and follow in the footsteps of our guest speakers who continue to make their mark in the workplace.”
