Clegg Construction starts work on £17.1m contract for student accommodation in Coventry

Work has started on a student accommodation scheme in Coventry that is being built by Clegg Construction as part of a £17.1m contract.

A total of 344 bedrooms, part new build and refurbishment, will be incorporated into the scheme in Stoney Stanton Road, Coventry, for Kier Property.

There will also be a central courtyard and landscaping works will be carried out at the development which is set to be completed in the summer of 2020.

This is the fourth student accommodation scheme that Clegg Construction is currently working on which will see over 1,200 rooms delivered at schemes including Sheffield, Southwell and Birmingham.

Work started at the Birmingham site, at the corner of Upper Dean Street and Pershore Street, in August 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in summer 2020. The works include demolition of existing buildings and retention of the existing façade. The building will house 398 student accommodation apartments which are being built for Bricks Developments.

A topping out ceremony was recently held at the Sheffield site which comprises of 324 rooms being built for Future Generation in the city’s St Vincent’s Quarter and includes the retention of an Unlisted Significant Building that contributes to the character of the area and the Grade ll listed Vincent House. Work is continuing on the multi-million pound scheme.

In Southwell, Clegg Construction is working on a student apartment scheme for Nottingham Trent University as part of a £10.25m contract.

The Nottingham-based firm is building six blocks on the Brackenhurst campus that is home to the university’s School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences.

There will be a total of 191 ensuite bedrooms, two warden flats and a communal recreation room for students. Work is set to be completed by August this year.
