Leicester kitchen designer appeared on judging panel for new TV programme

Leicester's very own Joel LaRosa has built his career in kitchen design from scratch and has since been a judge on the new BBC Daytime programme The Best House in Town, Joel’s appearance was aired over five days in February.

Joel was seen on a judging panel consisting of an electrician, a property developer, pattern designer, and an interior designer, all of whom judged the houses on three core areas: functionality, ambition and surprise.

For Joel, functionality was the key element as he believes this is what every home should work around, as well as balancing this function with style. Leicester is well known for being one of the most diverse cities in the UK, the show makes it clear that when it comes to interior design you don’t need to venture far to the exquisite architectural cities of Milan or Paris as it’s right here in Leicester.

When asked Joel said that:

“The 60’s detached house was my favourite, it was a lovely space with quirks of colour and furniture. But all of the homes have honed my skills more by seeing all of the different styles.”

Joel has already had some experience of being on a children’s television show when he was six-years old. He explained that:

“Being on The Best House in Town took me right back to that, being in front of the camera and meeting new people! The overall experience of being part of a production has been amazing; it was very exciting to watch it back and see the properties again in all their glory!”

The Best House in Town was aired on BBC One Daytime and features properties from around the UK, it is now available on BBC iPlayer.
