The Derby Conference Centre continues to help students take the first steps in their careers

The Derby Conference Centre is encouraging university students into their careers by continuing to offer year-long placements as part of their studies. The Centre has welcomed students this year from Sheffield Hallam University and Coventry University, with the majority studying courses such as Event and Hospitality Management amongst others.
Rebecca Prime, Sales & Conference Manager, was herself a placement student in 2012 and after returning to the Centre in 2015, has worked her way up to the role she currently holds.
“Having been on a placement here at The Derby Conference Centre myself, I really believe that it’s a great place for current students to grow and develop,” Rebecca said. “I feel that the hands-on experience I gained on my placement year allowed me to develop my abilities and current students can expect full support and encouragement to help them reach their individual goals. I also felt that the whole team at the Derby Conference Centre believed in me and that I was in the right place to take my career to the level I wanted to be at.”
Now helping to run the Centre’s student placement programme, Rebecca continually shares her experiences with current students exploring their opportunities post-university. She also believes that the support she received on her placement year has been key in enabling her to develop her skills and knowledge in areas such as client liaison and time management, amongst others.
In her current role as Sales & Conference Manager, Rebecca is heavily involved in meeting with The Derby Conference Centre’s clients and understanding their requirements when selecting the Centre for their events. The skills Rebecca uses in this role have been honed from her placement experience and through the support she receives from her own team.
By working with the students to learn about their aspirations for the future, Rebecca aims to give them the chance to build their own professional skills and network.

The Derby Conference Centre’s placements run from July to July of each year and the Centre is already keen to hear from students looking at their placement options in 2019.
