Prestigious industry award for Leicestershire surveyor

A surveyor from a leading Leicestershire property agency has been presented with a prestigious award after receiving the highest written marks in a rigorous examination set by a specialist professional body.

Mary Eyles, of Fisher German’s Ashby office, has been awarded the Thomas Willoughby Garton Trophy for the highest mark in the Midland Counties region for the written element of the fellowship exams of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV).

The CAAV has more than 2,800 members practising in a diverse range of agricultural and rural work throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The two-day examination included practical and written assessments covering a variety of agricultural topics ranging from farming policies, the valuation and marketing of rural property, environmental matters, dispute resolution and professional practice.

A total of 164 people across the country sat the fellowship exams during 2018, with just 83 qualifying.

Mary was presented with the award at the latest CAAV Midlands Counties branch AGM held at Fawsley Hall Hotel, in Northamptonshire.

Mary said:

“It’s a complex assessment which covers a wide range of topics, so I am very pleased to receive the Thomas Willoughby Garton Award for achieving the highest written marks.

“The Central Association of Agricultural Valuers is a highly thought of professional body, and is an excellent network to be a part of.

“Fisher German is very involved with the association and has been very supportive through the assessment process.”

It was not the only success for the firm at the event, with Fisher German Partner John Ikin becoming president of the Midlands Counties branch of the association.

John, who has been a fellow of the association for 20 years, said:

“I am very honoured to be serving the Midlands Counties Agricultural Valuers Association and I look forward to the year ahead.

“My role will include chairing meetings and supporting the various functions and exams as well as liaising with the central CAAV team.

“I would like to congratulate Mary on her achievement. Fisher German is a long-standing supporter of the association, and it is excellent to see colleagues from across the firm succeed in their fellowship examinations.”
