Trade fair brings bright young business talent to intu Derby

Talented students from across Derbyshire will bring their inspiring entrepreneurial businesses to intu Derby on Thursday, in a bid to be crowned ‘Young Enterprise Company of the Year.’

The annual South and East Derbyshire Trade Fair will see aspiring students from schools across the region set up shop in centre, showcasing the products from their very own businesses to visitors.

Throughout the academic year, the hopeful candidates have worked collaboratively to create their companies, from generating the initial concept and building a brand, to executing a business plan and managing its finances.

Taking place on Thursday 28 February, shoppers will be able to browse and buy a host of unique items created and sourced by the budding business people, ranging from candles and mugs, to hair accessories and stress balls.

Among the pupils competing for the coveted title this year are representatives from Derby Grammar School, Derby High School, Littleover School, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School and Ockbrook School.

Carly Salisbury, marketing manager at intu Derby, said:

“We are delighted to host the South and East Derbyshire Trade Fair again this year. The initiative is a fantastic opportunity for young people to build key skills, including teamwork, communication, leadership and organisation.

“We know that our visitors are just as passionate as we are about supporting local projects such as this, and we’re very much looking forward to welcoming both students and shoppers to celebrate the student’s hard work next week,” she added.

The trade fair will take place on level 2 of the centre near the food court from 9am to 6pm on Thursday 28 February.

Young Enterprise is the UK’s leading enterprise education charity, founded in 1963 to forge links between schools and local businesses. Its mission is to inspire and educate young people to understand and value the role of business through practical projects and hands on experience.
