Pupils live happily ever after at Barratt and David Wilson Homes' storytelling event

Stories were brought to life in front of the eyes of pupils from Heathcote Primary School thanks to a storytelling event at the school in Warwickshire organised by Barratt and David Wilson Homes.

Children at the school, located nearby to Poets Meadow and Warwick Gates, visited the show homes at the development where they were met by a storyteller who told enthralling tales as part of the celebration of National Storytelling Week.

The five-star housebuilders invited professional storyteller Richard York, a member of the Society for Storytelling, to spend the day at the school, telling stories to the pupils and engaging them in the literature.

The awareness week ran from 26th January to 2nd February and aimed to unite both children and adults in the customary pastime of storytelling.

The children discovered how oral storytelling has allowed stories to survive and adapt over thousands of years, across multiple continents.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“It was a pleasure to organise this storytelling event for the pupils of Heathcote Primary School and Richard’s stories really enchanted the children which was great to see.”

Jan Ruston, Sales Director at Barratt Homes North Midlands, added:

“Events such as these give us the opportunity to make a difference in the communities in which we build and encourage the awareness week that promotes skills such as reading, writing, listening and creativity."

Richard York said afterwards that it was a pleasure to work in the show home at the development with the pupils and teachers of Heathcote Primary School.

He said:

“Our National Storytelling Week is now copied internationally as more people realise the importance of oral storytelling, for its ability to build communities and provide a safe place to explore experiences.

“It’s great to see both children and adults getting so involved in listening both to stories and live music and I’m most grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for providing this opportunity.”
