TV celebrity hosts art auction to boost funds for Derby-based charity, Artcore

Derby charity, Artcore, will sell off more than 30 pieces of art at a live auction hosted by TV personality and auctioneer, Charles Hanson.

Work created by local artists will go under the hammer at next month’s event to raise much-needed funds for Artcore, on Charnwood Street in Derby.

The charity reaches out to socially-disadvantaged people across the city through its creative art programmes.

Last year, Artcore raised more than £5,000 from its first auction of artwork in the gallery.

Ruchita Shaikh, Artcore’s executive director, said:

“We’re excited to welcome back the very popular and talented Charles Hanson. He is very supportive of our charity and it is wonderful to receive this level of help.

“A patrol of Artcore and former High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, will be supporting the charity night and I could not be more pleased.

“What’s important is raising as much money as we can for Artcore - that’s the main aim. We want to continue delivering our creative workshops to the people of Derby and this money really does go a long way.”

Artcore patron, Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, said:

“I have been asked to introduce the catalogue for the second annual Artcore exhibition and auction. This event is another fascinating and innovative selection of artworks across different media, which I know you will enjoy.

“It is an ongoing pleasure to be involved with Artcore and the team continues to go from strength to strength – enriching the lives of our diverse communities through art.”

On the night, every piece of art for sale will be displayed in the gallery at Artcore. Guests will be invited to view it before Charles Hanson takes to the rostrum. It is hoped that every piece of artwork will be sold.

Ruchita said:

“It is quite an exciting night and last year the event was great. We were really amazed when we realised just how much money it had raised. We invited quite a few guests and it was very well attended. This art auction will be a very similar event.”

Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers, said:

“I’m delighted to be working with Artcore at this important charity event. I’m a Derbyshire man and I always do my utmost to support good causes in Derby and the county as a whole. I hope I can help Artcore raise a great deal of money to support its wonderful artistic endeavours.”

Artcore set up 10 years ago and since then it has reached out to thousands of people thanks to its creative workshops and art gallery. Through its busy art classes, it also engages with people with mental health issues as well as migrants and asylum seekers.

Fancy watching the live art auction unfold on Thursday, March 7, from 6-8.30pm? Well, now you can. You can apply for free tickets from Artcore, by telephoning the Derby gallery on 01332 384561.
