RAMS CEO talks football business tactics at Friar Gate Studios

Derby County F.C chief executive Stephen Pearce will be talking football business tactics at a special event hosted by Connect Derby.

Stephen will be sharing his business experiences at the event, which is taking place at Friar Gate Studios on Thursday 7 March (5.30pm - 7.30pm).

Stephen has been part of Derby County’s executive team since joining the club in 2013, taking on several senior responsibilities at Pride Park Stadium before being appointed Chief Executive Officer in August 2018. Prior to joining Derby, he held the position of Head of Statutory Reporting at Premier League side Chelsea for seven years.

He now oversees the day-to-day running of the Rams, a business which employs almost 200 full-time staff. Under the management of Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, the team is currently fighting for a place in the Premier League – the most watched sports league in the world.

Stephen will talk candidly about the challenges of running one of the most progressive and forward-thinking football clubs in the country. He will outline some of the innovative new business practices he has introduced into the club over the last year - including Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) - designed to grow the organisation and provide transparency and alignment to strategic objectives along the way.

Commenting on the event, Stephen said:

“I’m really looking forward to meeting Connect Derby tenants and members of the wider Derby business community and sharing my experiences of running a football club.

“The business practices that we’re pioneering here at Derby County are relevant to a broad range of industries, so I’d encourage anyone looking to develop their organisation to come along to Friar Gate Studios on 7 March.”

Ann Bhatti, head of Connect Derby, added:

“We’re really excited to welcome Stephen to our next business evening and are looking forward to hearing his unique take on the business world.

“It’ll be a real treat to hear about the world of football from a business perspective. Stephen’s talk will provide a fascinating insight into the football world as well as offering valuable learning for any business manager or owner.

“We also hope that he’ll be able to give us a heads-up on The Rams’ promotion chances this year!”

The evening will start at 5.30pm with Stephen Pearce speaking at 6.00pm for around 45 minutes including Q&A. Afterwards, guests will have the opportunity to continue networking until 7.30pm. Refreshments will be served.

Anyone interested in business is welcome to attend the event which is free of charge.
