The Derby Conference Centre now boasts largest collection of electric car charging points in Derby

In keeping with the greater demand for electric and hybrid cars, The Derby Conference Centre’s new car park boasts 14 electric car charging points, 3 of which were installed by leading electric car specialist Tesla.

This is now the largest concentration of ports in one location in the entire city of Derby.

Given that the East Midlands is one of the smallest regions for electric car charging points, the Centre hopes that such a high number of electric car charging points in its car park will start a new trend of further hubs being installed across the region, which currently has around 18 000 connectors.

The Centre also believes that this move will also enhance business in the region. Many businesses are turning towards electric vehicles for their fleets because of cheaper tax and other incentives. With this trend set to continue, the Centre is well-placed to welcome business travellers using electric cars to the city of Derby.

In addition, the Centre also hosts on-site hotel ‘Portland House’, so travellers can charge their vehicles overnight ready for the next leg of their journeys.

Matthew Hutchings, Managing Director at The Derby Conference Centre, said:

“Here at The Derby Conference Centre, we’re always aware of our responsibilities to the environment and the electric car charging ports in our new car park really reflects this. Electric cars are only going to become more prevalent on our roads so we believe its important that anyone driving an electric or hybrid vehicle who wants to visit not only our Centre but the great city of Derby has the opportunity to keep their vehicles charged.”

Work on the car park expansion, which has resulted in the creation of 300 parking spaces and 70 overflow spaces, began in the summer of this 2018 as a way for the Centre to keep up with the demand for its facilities, predicting to bring in 40 new jobs for the local region.

The car park is also ideally located for Derby County fans to park within walking distance of the iPro Pride Park stadium, highlighting the Centre’s ambition to be a key presence in the Derby community.
