Taking the financial headache away from SMEs

Taking the financial headache away from SMEs

A recruitment business specialising in the financial sector has experienced rapid growth after developing a solution to a classic problem for SMEs.

The Finance People help small and medium sized enterprises to scale up by providing them with senior financial expertise often on flexible working contracts.

It takes a headache away from small business owners who often struggle to cope with the financial requirements that come with growing a business.

Since the company launched in May last year it has already placed more than 60 senior finance professionals with SME clients and has doubled in size over the past six months.

The Finance People was created by a team of experts, led by highly experienced financial professional Anita Tweats, who use their experience to help companies find the right senior finance staff.

Working predominantly with SMEs the agency takes a “deep dive” approach to ensure companies get the people they really need.

Founder and CEO Anita Tweats said:

“SMEs face many challenges as they gear up for growth, not least the pressing issue of how best to manage money to optimise growth.

“Many would benefit massively from a senior professional with years of financial sector experience to help them manage their money and position them for further growth.

“Unfortunately many SMEs hold back on making this kind of appointment because they fear making a bad hiring decision or find the costs prohibitive.

“We offer these growing businesses a unique solution to this problem. We are not simply recruiters, we are finance people, as the name suggests.

“We all know the importance of getting the financial management of your company right, and understand the challenges involved in this, because we’ve lived it.

“We go into companies and do a full deep-dive to assess what they really need. They might come to us and say ‘we need a finance director’ when actually what would suit them better is a Financial Controller.

“We use our expertise to help companies move forward and grow. It’s about so much more than just simple recruitment. It’s a consultative approach.

“We build a relationship with the businesses that employ us, and it’s our aim to become their long-term partner of choice.”

Anita founded The Finance People last May having had a successful career in both finance and recruitment, which saw her work for several big-name companies including Vodaphone, Evans Halshaw and Wedgwood.

She is joined at director level by two fellow industry experts and between them the three directors offer more than 70 years’ experience in the finance business. The company also employs a further six members of staff who all have a track-record of success in financial recruitment, and it is currently looking to take on a managing director.

In the past 12 months the Staffordshire-based company has successfully placed more than 60 candidates with companies, and has grown a reputation for its thorough approach.

Karen Creavin, CEO of The Active Wellbeing Society, said:

“I am delighted with the support we have had from The Finance People. It’s good to know that you can access their expertise easily and quickly, and we are continuing to benefit from their ongoing support.”

Anita said:

“Because we have all worked in the finance industry we know exactly what clients are looking for in their candidates. This has enabled us to send the very best people to them and create a match that works for everyone.

“We’ve been delighted with the way the business has grown in its first year and believe this is down to our successful results. We’re looking forward to extending our reach even further this year.”

The company specialises in helping businesses find flexible solutions for their finance teams, whether that’s placing senior finance staff on a full-time basis or temporary staff to help with specific projects such as acquisitions and mergers, crisis management or exit planning.

Its headquarters are in Stone, Staffordshire, but its clients and candidates are nationwide.
