National Model Railroad Association convention returns to The Derby Conference Centre

The National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) once again returned to The Derby Conference Centre this year with a convention for its members.

The three-day event ran from 26 to 28 October and brought together model rail enthusiasts from around the world.

The event was also open to the public on the Saturday and saw around 200 guests descend on The Derby Conference Centre, which itself has a rich history in Derby’s railway industry. The Centre used to be the home for the British Rail Training College before being transformed into the conference centre it is today.

Having already hosted the NMRA conference last year, the Centre is proud to once again be at the heart of such a key event in the rail industry calendar and is also the confirmed venue for the NMRA’s 2020 convention.

Managing Director at The Derby Conference Centre Matthew Hutchings said:

“It’s great to once again welcome the National Model Railway Association members to our Centre and host their convention. Given our history within the rail industry, this is such a special honour and privilege for us and we’re especially proud that the National Model Railway Association will be returning again in 2020. It was a pleasure to host their convention and I’m proud of the team we have at The Derby Conference Centre who made it such a great event.”

As well as having a strong connection with Derby’s railway heritage, The Derby Conference Centre’s hotel ‘Portland House’ and other facilities made it an ideal venue for the NMRA’s members. The majority of the on-site accommodation was booked exclusively for NMRA members during the convention, allowing them to remain for as long as they wished.

The NMRA also operates globally and given The Derby Conference Centre’s close proximity to the M1 and M42 motorways and other transport links, this makes it an ideal venue for organisations operating across the UK and abroad.

NMRA event organiser Steve Dennison said: “All the attending members had a great time, many commenting this was the best convention yet. All in all we feel there is no other venue we would rather hold our convention and are very much looking forward to returning in 2020”.

The Derby Conference Centre has the capacity to host conventions of all sizes and has a range of facilities available for businesses looking to host an event of their own. Further details about these facilities can be found at https://thederbyconferencecentre.com/conferencing/.
