The White Peacock Restaurant flies high with hat-trick of award wins

An independent restaurant in the heart of Leicester is flying high after picking up a hat-trick of accolades.

The White Peacock Restaurant was recently crowned with having the best formal dining experience at the glittering award ceremony for the annual Leicestershire Tourism & Hospitality Awards.

The King Street restaurant was also voted as having the best cocktail experience in the county, while manager Esme Ditano was highly commended for her inspirational work within the venue.

Owner Raghunath Kodakandala (pictured holding award) said they had worked hard throughout the year in making the restaurant, their menu and the service extraordinary, and they were incredibly proud of picking up the three awards.

“We have been in the heart of Leicester for a number of years now, and to be honoured in this way and recognised for this work was incredible. I am incredibly proud of The White Peacock and all our staff, as we have a lot of competition in the area. However, we have proved ourselves to be consistent and are very grateful of these awards.

“We would to thank everyone for voting for us and we are very much looking forward to next year as we have a lot of exciting things in store for our customers,” he added.

Esme said:

“I was just blown away by being nominated in the first place, and to be highly commended in this category was fantastic. We all work very hard within the restaurant and this makes it all worthwhile.”

Judges praised the restaurant’s ‘excellent and imaginative’ style, coupled with a true sense of occasion, attentive service and some of the best dishes in the whole competition.

The restaurant, which is in a Grade 2 listed building, serves British and International Cuisine, and has also picked up the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for the past four years running.

It is also known throughout the city for its cocktails, from old classics to its own creations. Judges said they were impressed with the restaurant’s customer service and said, ‘they felt special the instant they arrived’.

The restaurant is owned by KoBan Group – which recently purchased The Landsdowne and Fenways from The Orange Tree group and successfully operates the Indian fine dining restaurant, Aspects in Enderby - which was founded by Raghu Kodakandala and Dr. Bandrapalli with a vision to create an independent, quality hospitality group focusing on the Leicestershire market.

The Leicestershire Tourism & Hospitality Awards event was held at Athena on 29th November.

Winners included restaurants, hotels, visitor attractions, cafes, food producers, farm shops, tearooms, pubs, event venues, B&Bs, festivals and events, and Market Towns.

Now in its 8th year, the awards are aimed at finding the best tourism businesses in Leicestershire and this year, around 100 businesses submitted over 190 applications for this year’s categories. The awards are hosted by Leicestershire Promotions and this year, corporate sponsors included Everards, NVG, Pear Communications, Leicester City Council and Leicestershire County Council.

Martin Peters, Chief Executive of Leicestershire Promotions said:

“This year’s awards have been an amazing success with more applicants than ever from a broad cross-section of the Leicestershire tourism industry. The judges really had their work cut out in the face of intense competition from such an amazing list of finalists. We offer our hearty congratulations to all of the deserved winners who represent Leicestershire so magnificently to all visitors to the city and county.”
