This workshop format presentation is designed to enlighten every business owner on the sensitive area of ‘diversity’ - so whether it’s sexual orientation, race or disability - it will provide you with the basic ‘do’s and don'ts’. More importantly, it will help you understand and interpret the law and the potential consequences in an age of increasing litigation.
It’s designed to help you whether you are a one person company all the way up to employers of 1000’s of people. Because this law is about people - and in your business you will engage with customers, suppliers and prospects no matter how large or small you are.
I’m Richard Shakespeare and back in 2012, I’d had my business for just under two years and I was finding it difficult to connect with the right people to grow it. On Valentine’s day 2012 all that changed, I attended the first Love Business. One of the reasons I’d registered for Love Business was to see Craig Spence speak, he was the International Paralympic Committee Communications Manager and 2012 was the memorable year London hosted the games.
The event was surprisingly well attended and had a great vibe, I listened to Craig speak and was introduced to him following his talk. When I explained what I did, he suggested I contacted Eurostar International. With the Paralympics fast approaching, he felt sure they would welcome an expert review of their current capabilities regarding staff and facilities. I made the call, mentioned my chat with Craig’s and his recommendation. A meeting at Eurostar was arranged, and shortly after I was appointed as their diversity and inclusion training provider. My business hasn’t looked back since.
Today I remain Eurostar’s provider for diversity and inclusion training. Working with such a well-respected brand definitely opened more doors, and today I’m regarded as one of the UK’s foremost experts for diversity and inclusion training. This can all be traced back to Love Business, the connections I made and the opportunities it created - including East Midlands Trains, who I met at the following years event.
The short answer is no, if you are a business you will come into contact with people - suppliers, customers, prospects, potential recruits and employees. If you handle a situation wrongly, no matter how well intended, the consequences and penalties can be catastrophic. Brand reputation and public relations are at one end of the scale, but at the other is the possibility of an unlimited fine. Which is why, at Love Business on February 27th, 2019, I’m doing a talk and free one-to-one consultations.
