Corporate and banking partner returns to support Nelsons' ongoing growth plans

GROWING law firm Nelsons has strengthened its corporate services and Leicester-based team with the re-appointment of a former partner.

Chris Rees originally joined Nelsons as a trainee in 1998 before becoming a partner in 2005. After leaving the law firm in 2014, he has now returned to Nelsons as a partner based in the Leicester office in New Walk.

He said: “As a leading law firm in the East Midlands, Nelsons is renowned for the quality of its work and its forward-thinking approach. I am absolutely delighted to be returning to help develop the corporate services offering in Leicester, as well as across the whole of the East Midlands.”

Chris specialises in corporate finance work (such as acquisitions, mergers, disposals, management buyouts and management buy-ins), banking work (with particular expertise in real estate and development finance), other funding/investment work, reorganisations, demergers, joint ventures and corporate governance.

He said: “During my time away from Nelsons, the law firm has evolved as a business and I have grown as a lawyer. My return to Nelsons is the right move for me – I see myself and the business as a perfect fit.

“When I was training and subsequently a newly qualified lawyer, Nelsons put its belief in me, in turn giving me the confidence to pursue my specialism in corporate finance and banking. Nelsons is a truly East Midlands-based firm that competes nationally but also remains committed to supporting local businesses.

“Working at Nelsons allows me a greater level of flexibility due to its fantastic internal IT systems and processes. I have only been back for a couple of weeks and I am already back doing what I do best, which is to help my team close deals.

“I am looking forward to working with Nelsons’ fantastic team, a lot of whom are close friends of mine, while also supporting Nelsons in its mission to become the law firm of choice in Leicester and the East Midlands.”

Stewart Vandermark, chief executive at Nelsons, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Chris back to our team. One of Chris’ main objectives in his role is to grow our corporate services offering with a specific focus on the development of our Leicester office.

“Chris coming back to the business is like welcoming back an old friend. He will be able to look at our business with an outsider perspective, which in turn will assist in our ongoing evolution and development. He re-joins at an exciting time as we are developing ambitious plans for the future and I am sure he will play a key role in helping us achieve them.”
