Cool As Leicester awarded top Midlands award

The cream of the Midlands media was celebrated at the annual Midlands Media Awards with Leicester’s Gabrielle Miller taking home the trophy in the Blogger/Columnist of the Year category for her work managing online leisure portal, Cool As Leicester.

Gabrielle was one of only two winners from the East Midlands, alongside Caroline Lowbridge from BBC East Midlands who took home Online/Digital Journalist of the Year.

The awards, sponsored by HSBC UK, Birmingham Press Club and creative agency Bareface, took place at Edgbaston Stadium and saw the winners crowned following a period of judging from the awards' exceptional panel of esteemed media representatives. They are held annually on behalf of Birmingham Press Club and were hosted by ITV Central presenter, Bob Warman.

The Blogger/Columnist of the Year category saw Cool As Leicester owner, Gabrielle Miller, go up against a raft of Midlands local newspaper journalists, including Birmingham Mail and Derby Telegraph, to scoop the prize. The judges commented,

“Cool As Leicester is a fresh, fun source of news and entertainment, providing website and social media audiences with all there is to know about leisure, entertainment, events and food & drink in Leicestershire.” They continued to commented that Cool As Leicester is “visually engaging, user-friendly and a trusted source of information.”

Gabrielle set up Cool As Leicester with the aim of offering a platform to showcase entertainment, events and the cream of Leicestershire’s independent businesses. Covering everything from music and theatre to food and football, the content is written and shared in the website’s own unique style and has gained a strong following in the city and county across the website and social media channels.

Gabrielle commented,

“To be recognised amongst the newspaper journalists in the Midlands is a real honour. When I first started Cool As Leicester I just wanted to build a space to shout about the brilliant independent businesses, venues and events that we have in the city and county. As an online magazine my aim is to stay relevant, up to date and be a source of fun updates and news in the area.”

“Leicester has changed so much as a city during the past few years, which has been fantastic to see, and I hope that Cool As Leicester will continue to be part of these developments for years to come.”
