Land surrounding the site of the former Harboro Rubber factory is on the market with planning permission for 45 houses and flats. The second lot up for sale is the former flour mill on the site which is Grade II listed. The building was originally built around 1860 as part of Blandford’s Flour Mill.
Harborough Rubber Company set up on the St Mary’s Road site in 1894 when it was taken over by the Briggs family who had a boot-making shop in Leicester. After over a century at St Mary’s Road, the company relocated to its new site at the Riverside Industrial Estate in 2006.
Since that time, the land has been lying fallow as different planning schemes were debated. At a meeting in the summer, planning officers commented that the proposed development offered the benefit of restoring a listed building and providing new homes on a brownfields site.,
The land and flour mill are being marketed by local estate agents Andrew Granger & Co who have almost 30 years’ experience selling residential and commercial properties in Harborough and Leicestershire.
Head of Residential Sales Peter Buckingham comments:
“It’s not often such a prime parcel of land comes up for sale in a town like Market Harborough. The existence of planning permission is also a massive bonus for prospective developers. As a site of significance and prominence in the town with close proximity to the train station, we expect demand for property to be high.”
Harboro Rubber originally made bicycle pedal blocks and pedal blocks for cars and worked. The company began producing synthetic rubber during the Second World War due to the shortage of materials needed to produce rubber which originated in Japan.
Andrew Granger & Co offer a range of professional services including as well as offering services in residential and commercial sales and lettings. The company has three offices across Leicestershire in Market Harborough, Leicester city centre and Loughborough.
