Coventry University to Host Digital Partnerships Conference

An event aimed at helping businesses harness the benefits of digital technology is being held at Coventry University next month.

The conference on 5th December entitled, ‘Joining Forces to Create Solutions: Digital Partnerships’, is being organised by Midlands Enterprise Universities (MEU) - a consortium of six universities (Birmingham City, Coventry, Derby, Lincoln, Nottingham Trent and Wolverhampton) dedicated to driving productivity and growth across the region.

As well as showcasing the universities’ combined skills and expertise, the event will focus on the importance of embracing digital change, the challenges businesses may face and how to overcome them.

MEU Director Jenny Kenning explained:

“Our 7,000 academics work in some of the best international research groups in the country, and by combining our universities’ digital skills and expertise, we are helping businesses become more productive and competitive.

“We’ve had some really good success stories, but there’s much more we can do to drive growth and the development of digital technology in the region.

“This conference will demonstrate our capabilities and hopefully encourage more businesses to take advantage of the support and world-class facilities available on their doorstep.”

Vice-Chancellor and CEO of Coventry University Professor John Latham, who is also one of the speakers on the day, said:

“Coventry University is delighted to be hosting the event on behalf of Midlands Enterprise Universities.

“Together our six universities have a clear role to play in the development and application of digital technology, to solve the key challenges outlined in the Government’s Industrial Strategy.”

Other keynote speakers include Sarah Windrum, CEO and co-founder of the Emerald Group (an IT consultancy based in Warwickshire) and Dr Mike Short CBE, Chief Scientific Adviser at the Department for International Trade (DIT).

Sarah, who is also a board director of the Coventry & Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, a member of the West Midlands Combined Authority Digital Board and Vice-chair of the Skills Board at Tech UK, will be speaking about the digital challenges facing UK industry.

Dr Short, who has over 40 years’ experience in electronics and telecommunications and served as Vice President of Telefonica - the parent company of the O2 network, joined the DIT as its first chief scientific adviser in 2017. He will be speaking about 21st century mobile and digital opportunities.

The conference is open to businesses with an interest in digital innovation, national and regional organisations including Innovate UK, DIT, BEIS and the Midlands Engine, LEP Growth Hubs, chambers of commerce; city and county councils, combined authorities and employer representative bodies.

As well as hearing from the speakers, guests will also receive a copy of the MEU’s new digital capabilities brochure, which will be launched on the day.
