Active accountants claim second in mixed Marathon challenge

Four staff from chartered accountants Newby Castleman are celebrating after coming second in the Cummins Mixed Relay Challenge at the Leicester Marathon.
The Newby Castleman Gazelles finished the race in a time of three hours, 28 minutes and eight seconds, with each team member running a distance of just over six and a half miles.
Accountants Rebecca Chandler and Andy Cowperthwaite were joined by Marketing Manager Nicola Cooper and Secretary Claire Percival to make up the relay team.
Nicola, who completed the first leg of the relay said:
“The relay race was a great occasion to be a part of and a hugely rewarding experience. We’re grateful for the support and sponsorship from our colleagues, and to our families and friends for cheering us on.
“To raise funds for a worthwhile cause like LOROS was a real incentive for the four of us to throw ourselves into this challenge, which was made especially gruelling because of all the rain on the day itself!”
The firm, which has offices in Leicester and Loughborough, paid the Gazelles’ entry fee, allowing them to focus on the task of raising as much sponsorship money as they could.
They were competing against teams from 48 other businesses and organisations in the annual Cummins challenge, running along the Leicester Marathon route from Victoria Park in the city centre, out to the village of Thrussington and back again.
The organisers Cummins Solicitors set a target of £15,000 for the Leicestershire and Rutland hospice, LOROS, and they have raised more than £12,500 to date. To donate to the cause, visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cummins-solicitors1
Nicola continued, “We love taking up sporting challenges at Newby Castleman – we’ve competed in Table Tennis tournaments and swimming relay races in the past, and this won’t be our last marathon relay.”
