Diwali celebration at Howes Percival

Diwali celebration at Howes Percival

Businesspeople from a variety of backgrounds in and around Leicester had an opportunity to celebrate Diwali recently at Howes Percival's Leicester office.

Guests were welcomed by Satnam Chayra, a Partner, who gave a brief talk on the origins of Diwali and its significance to the Leicester community.

Diwali is celebrated by people of many religions across the world and coincides with the Hindu New Year.  The festival celebrates new beginnings, the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

As Diwali is a time for celebration, music was played throughout the evening and guests were treated to some Indian food and drinks, including some traditional Indian sweets.

The entertainment was provided by the University of Leicester Bhangra Society, who performed some traditional bhangra dancing with the music provided by a dhol player. The dhol is a double-headed drum widely played throughout the Indian subcontinent at Diwali.

Sundip Mapara, a solicitor from Howes Percival said,

"This is the first time we've hosted a Diwali networking event and it was really well received. Diwali is one of the most significant cultural events in Leicester and hopefully it can become a permanent fixture in the Howes Percival calendar, as an opportunity to celebrate with clients, contacts and business associates."
