Nottingham College Theatrical Hair and Media Make-up students found out what it’s like to be part of a major theatre production, as they worked with the cast of record-breaking musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, which was on show at Nottingham’s Theatre Royal.

My Fair Lady, Oliver, Beauty and the Beast, and Annie are just some of the famous shows Nottingham College students have worked on with the Nottingham Operatic Society over the years.

Harriet Hollowell, Honorary Secretary for Nottingham Operatic Society, said:

“As always the students were very professional and a pleasure to have around. It’s great to be able to give the students the opportunity to work on a sell-out show like this and it’s also a lovely experience for our actors. We look forward to working with them again next year.”

Student Dominique Valvona, 18, did the hair and make-up for Amelia Icke, who plays one of the wives. Dominique said:

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the actors and doing something different. Every year I would come to the Theatre with my family to watch the Christmas panto so it’s been brilliant to be part of the production backstage.

“I’ve learnt so much already, not just about theatrical make-up but also about the demands and responsibilities of working for a real client.”

Janet Wootton, who performs as part of the ensemble, adds:

“It was lovely to have the help of Melody, who alongside doing my hair and make-up, also helped with my costume changes. She tied my turban, fitted my beard, and then helped me to quickly change into cocktail wear, followed by a mini dress - all in the space of about 20 minutes! Experience like this is wonderful for the students because it gives them a real taste of the entertainment industry and also the pressures that go with it.”
