Ibstock Brick shortlisted for two edie Sustainability Leaders Awards 2019

Ibstock Brick has been shortlisted in two categories for the edie Sustainability Leaders Awards 2019.

Ibstock plc, the UK’s leading brick manufacturer will go up against nine other businesses in the Energy Efficiency category, and Michael McGowan, the company’s Quality, Environmental and Energy Manager, has also been shortlisted in the Energy Management Leader of the Year category, sponsored by the Energy Institute.

Ibstock Brick is committed to driving sustainability through investment across its business. For example, it invested significantly in Eclipse, the UK’s most efficient brickworks at its headquarters in the heart of Leicestershire, which was officially opened by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Rt Hon James Brokenshire MP, in June earlier this year.

Ibstock’s People First approach identifies people as major energy users, as opposed to machinery and processes, which is at the heart of its sustainability journey.

Joe Hudson, Chief Executive Officer of Ibstock PLC, commented:

“It is a real achievement for Ibstock Brick to be shortlisted for these prestigious sustainability awards. At the heart of our sustainability strategy is a people-focused approach, which sits alongside our investment in more resource-efficient methods of manufacture. With clear targets and a roadmap to achieve these we find ourselves looking towards a promising future where our impact on the environment is not only minimised but positive.”

The edie Sustainability Awards, co-ordinated by leading environmental publisher edie.net, are the UK’s largest and most prestigious sustainability awards, recognising excellence across the spectrum of green business. The winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in London on 6th February 2019.
