New Clubhouse officially open at Belper Meadows Sports Club

Belper Meadows Community Sports Club were delighted to officially open their new multi-use club house on Saturday with the help of a few special guests.

Robert Kirkland from Bowmer & Kirkland, along with Jane Morris, were proud to cut the ribbon and declare the brand new, modern clubhouse officially open.

Jane was representing her husband John a stalwart of the club who as treasurer for over 15 years created a ‘sink fund’ which he started when he took over as treasurer at the club. It was this foresight and funds that led to the facility becoming a reality. John sadly passed away in January and never saw the clubhouse completed – but he knew his hard work over all those years would see the dream of a modern new clubhouse become a reality.

The new clubhouse, centres on the meadows facility with 3 ‘sides’ having a view for spectators – bowls, tennis, and hockey.

The new facility has 4 changing rooms with showers, flexible meeting room spaces, toilets, kitchen and a social area, which together will provide fantastic modern facilities, especially for spectators, visitors and children at the club.

The Sports club have been working hard for over 20 years to bring the dream of a new clubhouse to reality, the project has cost over £500,000.

Kath Hoult, Chair of the Belper Community Sports Club said:

“The club and community have worked really hard, over many many years and to finally have a club house we can be proud of is fantastic” she added “The new clubhouse will only help the club thrive, especially with the facilities for multi sports that transcends across all ages.”

A huge thank you to Belper Mayor, Tim Sutton and Councillor Peter Makin representing Belper Town Council, Sally Lewis from Armsons, Co-op, Robert Kirkland, representing Bowmer & Kirkland, Sport England, The Big Lottery Fund, Derbyshire Environment Trust, Garfield Weston Foundation, Valliant and the numerous supporters of the Buy A Brick scheme.
