Leicestershire property solicitor celebrates 30 years of practising law

A specialist in property law at Leicestershire solicitors Bray & Bray is celebrating her 30th year as a practising solicitor. She also joins the company in commemorating another milestone - 125 years of service in 2018.

Partner Amanda Sutcliffe joined Bray & Bray six years ago in 2012 and works from the company’s Spa Place head office in Leicester city centre where she heads up the residential conveyancing department dealing with a range of transactions from first time buyers to multi-million pound dream homes.

Although now a residential property solicitor, Amanda has thirty years of experience in conveyancing both residential and commercial properties. She has specific expertise in the complexities around buying and selling leasehold properties.

Amanda began her legal career as an A Level student studying Law before moving on to the University of Nottingham to continue her studies in Law. Her very earliest training as an articled clerk was in a criminal law firm in Nottingham.

“I spent those early days in court sitting behind Counsel or in police station interviews at a time when interviews were all hand written and even lady solicitors took instructions locked in a cell with their client,” comments Amanda.

In 1988 she qualified as a solicitor and moved to her first job in Leicester.

Over the three decades since Amanda was admitted to practice law, conveyancing has seen many changes, becoming an increasingly complex and pressurised process.

She explains: “Since I was first admitted to practice, the process of buying and selling property has become more strictly regulated. Gone are the days when we paid for a property with a cheque accompanied by a letter from the senior partner to the seller’s lawyer undertaking to honour it. Much of that is a good thing as it is designed to protect both parties, but in an increasingly litigious society, it’s crucial to ensure that all processes are followed to the letter. It’s also important to keep on top of changes within the industry that occur regularly.”

Under Amanda’s leadership, Bray & Bray are members of the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS), introduced in 2011 by the Law Society to ensure a recognised quality standard for residential conveyancing practices.

“The purchase of land or property is such a significant investment, it’s important to have the assurance that you are dealing with experts in the field,” Amanda adds. “As members of the CQS, our clients can be assured that we are up to date with the latest regulations and offer the very best practice.”

Tim Gladdle, the Senior Partner at Bray & Bray, congratulated Amanda on reaching her 30th anniversary of practising law.  He comments:

“To work in the legal profession for three decades is a real achievement and testament to Amanda’s dedication and expertise. She has such a wealth of experience and expertise to share with her colleagues and is a real asset to the team here at Bray & Bray.”

Set up in 1893, Bray & Bray has four offices across Leicestershire including two in the city centre, as well as offices in Market Harborough and Hinckley. The firm employs over 100 staff offering a full range of legal services from commercial property, employment law, wills, probate and tax through to personal injury, residential property, family services and business defence.
