Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Awards unveiled as community urged to vote for their favourite town business

Town artist creates unique awards for Burton’s only business awards voted by the general public to celebrate independent stores, services and businesses.

The People’s Choice Business Awards are in their second year. Run by Burton Small Business and Staffordshire County Council, you have until October 31st to nominate your favourite business to receive the unique award.

This year the team have commissioned local artist Anna Roebuck, of The Making House, in Bearwood Hill, Winshill, to design the prestigious awards with sponsorship from Chameleon School of Construction.

The awards are there to recognise the businesses going above and beyond to make Burton the perfect place to shop and do business.

Whether that is your local café, an independent retailer or specialist service like a hairdresser, accountant or timber merchant.

Elaine Pritchard, of Caittom Publishing and one of the three town businesses who run not for profit support group Burton Small Business said:

"It was a great opportunity to celebrate the variety of successful independent businesses in the town.

She said: “The People’s Choice Business Awards recognise independent businesses making a difference in the town. It is a great way of letting that local restaurant, florist, solicitor or gym know that they are going above and beyond.”

Chameleon School of Construction, which has a base in Swadlincote and Burton, offers a variety of training opportunities to help people looking for a career in construction.

The company has this year sponsored two unique awards which will be handed to the winners at the town’s Small Business Saturday Winter Festival in December.

The festival, which is being organised by Burton Small Business and East Staffordshire Borough Council, will mark national movement Small Business Saturday to encourage people to think local with their Christmas shopping and support independent retailers.

Angelica Duncan, director of Chameleon School of Construction, said:

“It is a great opportunity to be able to support local businesses. At Chameleon School of Construction we are proud to help local businesses thrive so it only seemed fitting to sponsor the awards that go to those local businesses making a difference in our community.”

Staffordshire County Council economic growth leader Mark Winnington said:

“Last year we saw the launch of the People’s Business Awards which gave us a great opportunity to champion our small and medium sized enterprises which are an important part of the local economy and community.

“The response we had last year was fantastic – with people telling us how small companies in Burton offer excellent customer service and also really value the town as a place to do business. The awards showcase the high calibre of businesses we have here.”

Town yoga, pilates and meditation studio Calm was chosen by the public last year for the award.
