Rothera Sharp celebrates arrival of trainee and promotion of home-grown talent

Rothera Sharp is delighted to announce the arrival of a new trainee in its litigation department, in conjunction with a former trainee starting her job as a newly qualified solicitor within the firm’s family law department.

Billy Shaw began his training contract with Rothera Sharp at the beginning of September on completion of his LPC at Nottingham Trent Law School. Whilst completing his undergraduate degree Billy won several academic prizes including the Vice Chancellor’s Award and the Trent Law Prize for the best LLB results.

Billy said:

“I have a keen interest in both corporate transactions and commercial property work. I applied to Rothera Sharp as I felt that the firm had a very friendly atmosphere, and the level of responsibility given to trainees allows me to massively develop my professional skills and abilities. I have already had client contact and been given the opportunity to open and run my own case.”

In conjunction with Billy joining the firm, former trainee Rebecca Lister will be starting her new role as a solicitor in the family law department, after qualifying earlier this month.

Rebecca originally joined Rothera Sharp in September 2016 after completing the LPC at Nottingham Law School and achieving a first class honours degree in Law. After spending time in the firm’s commercial, civil litigation and personal injury departments, in March 2017 Rebecca had a seat in the firm’s family department, gaining experience in child arrangement and prohibited steps orders. As a fully qualified solicitor she will be advising clients on a variety of child care matters.

Rebecca said:

“I was candid from quite early on about the fact that I wanted to stay at the firm once I had qualified. As a trainee it was a steep learning curve, but one where I was able to naturally progress.  I was given my own files after a few days and had the opportunity to do my own hearings and advocacy, whereas I don’t know anyone else who’s been given that responsibility in other firms. I never considered applying anywhere else once I had qualified because I wanted to stay at Rothera Sharp. I feel supported here, and there’s just the right balance.”

Ann-Marie Bowman, the firm’s Managing Partner said:

“We are delighted to welcome Billy to the firm and have Rebecca come on board as a newly qualified solicitor. Billy has clearly excelled during his time at university and is already proving to be a real asset to the litigation team. We are also thrilled that Rebecca has decided to stay on at the firm as a fully qualified family law solicitor. Having witnessed her strong work ethic as a trainee she always goes the extra mile and is proof of how far trainees can progress at Rothera Sharp.”
