Inspiring Business by Sharing Success

Payroll team hits a bonus!

Payroll team hits a bonus!

Midland Heart is celebrating National Payroll Week, September 3-7, by highlighting the achievements of its own payroll team, which has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

The housing association’s team is up for the In-house Payroll Team of the Year, awarded annually by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals.

Baljinder Kang, Executive Director of HR and Learning, Midland Heart, said:

“When I first met the payroll team they were using manual processes and every month dealt with a large number of queries arising from pay errors.  The team was not engaged with other HR colleagues and its image within the organisation was far from great.

“Three years on the team has transformed its working practices and its reputation, adopted continuous improvement as its mantra, virtually eliminated pay errors and works collaboratively with HR and other teams across the business.

“It has been my pleasure watching this team go from strength to strength and become trusted and credible.”

Mike Sutton, Head of HR Shared Services & Reward, added;

“I am proud to manage the team; proud of its results and their continued desire to improve, work together and engage with the business. Bringing the payroll, reward and shared services teams together as one team is one of the keys to this success and the pace improvement we can achieve together. The desire from the whole team to continually improve what they do is another key.

“To be shortlisted for this prestigious award is more than fantastic and is recognition from our professional body for not only what we have achieved but how we have achieved it.”

As part of National Payroll Week, Dougie MacInnes, Payroll Manager, will be attending an event at the House of Commons, sponsored by Solihull MP, Julian Knight and the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP). The event on September 4, is being held to help raise the profile of payroll and its impact on the UK economy.

The institute will announce the winners of its 2018 excellence awards on October 11 at a ceremony in Birmingham
