Derby charity receives £2,000 donation – thanks to Frame Fast!

A charity which sends local children on precious holidays to Skegness has received a cash boost from a Derby business.

A donation of £2,000 was presented to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre by staff at Frame Fast UK, a local manufacturer of windows, doors, conservatories and glass.

The money, raised from a one-day charity golf day at Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel and Country Club, will pay for SIX children to enjoy a week-long holiday at the seaside.

A total of 64 golfers took part in the event and there was also a raffle.

Nigel Leivers, director at Frame Fast UK, based in Ascot Drive, says:

“We hold an annual golf day and always try and support a local charity. This year, we collected £2,000 and presented a cheque to the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre. A while back we met with chairman, Bill Tomlinson, and we were really impressed with the Derby charity.

“We hope this money will make a difference to children’s lives. We know our donation will pay for some youngsters to enjoy a holiday in Skegness and that means everything to us at Frame Fast.”

Earlier this year, Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre launched a campaign to find 660 people willing to pay for one deserving child to go on a week’s holiday to Skegness.

The charity asked people to join the 660 Club and donate £28 a month - £336 in total – to sponsor a child from the Derby or Derbyshire area. Every year, it costs more than £400,000 a year to run the centre in Skegness, which set up in 1891.

Bill Tomlinson, chairman of the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, said:

“We always need donations. We have some very generous supporters and fundraisers but when a local business thinks of us and donates some money, it makes us extremely happy.

“In fact, it means more to us than we can ever say. Every day, we work hard to raise the profile of the charity and think of innovative ways to boost funds, but corporate support from local businesses is priceless.

“Thanks to Frame Fast UK, and this wonderful donation, we can continue to send children on holiday. There really are so many benefits to a child spending time at the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre.

“Some children and their families really need this. All the children who visit the centre in Skegness deserve the break. At the same time, it can also give parents, grandparents and carers a much-needed rest.”

Nigel added:

“It’s not the first time we’ve supported the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre. The other year we were fortunate enough to raise more than £5,000 for DCHC.

“We are really happy to continue to support this charity. We always look forward to our golf day because it’s such good fun. At the same time, we know we are raising money for a really worthy cause and that’s brilliant.”
