Charity ‘buoyed’ by support from East Midlands businesses

Businesses throughout the East Midlands ‘buoyed’ the spirits of everyone at Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People by raising over £12,000 at this year’s Dragon Boat Challenge.

The Dragon Boat Challenge takes place every August along the River Trent in Nottingham, during the popular Riverside Festival – and this year was the tenth year in which the event has supported Rainbows.

With 28 teams taking to the water, including a team made up of Rainbows nurses and care staff, the competition from the first race was ‘ferry’ high and saw the team from DHL Nottingham – DHL’s Unsinkable Buoys - crowned overall winners.

Derby based firm, Blueprint Interiors, also walked away on the day as winners - collecting the prize for best fancy dress for their pirate themed outfits; as well as collecting the coveted Charity Prize which is given to the team which raises the most money for Rainbows at the event.

Tom Stanyard, Corporate Partnership Fundraiser at Rainbows said:

“For the last 10 years the Dragon Boat has been a wonderful event which we are extremely proud to be part of, and this year was no different.

“We’re delighted that so many companies from across the East Midlands came out to support us. With little guaranteed funding each year, it’s the generosity of individuals and businesses, like those who took part in the Dragon Boat, that mean we’re able to continue providing vital care to the region’s most seriously ill children, young people and their families.”
