Enterprise agency staff and members work together to give charity a business boost

STAFF and members of enterprise agency Erewash Partnership have pulled together to help a charity which supports young families to update its business operations.

Ilkeston-based Home-Start Erewash, a member of the Partnership, asked for help a year ago to move the charity's business operation forward.

The Partnership produced a development blueprint with guidance across a number of areas of professional expertise. This, in turn, had a strategic objective of ensuring that the charity is sustainable in the medium and longer term.

The University of Derby helped with marketing, using the charity as a module for students who were tasked to produce a comprehensive marketing plan. The charity then took on an intern provided by the University.

Hello People Solutions of Ilkeston provided human resources support to ensure that the charity's employment contracts and staff terms and conditions were up to date and fit for purpose.

Catherine Simpson, of Simpson Social, also based in the town, used a series of workshops to train staff in using social media.

Andrew Deighton, of AWD Development Solutions, based in Chellaston, ran workshops to develop the charity's strategic plan, and a review of the charity's governance was provided by Richard Smallwood, of Breaston-based Smallwood Consultants, who is one of the mentors used by the Partnership to advise businesses.

Partnership project manager Paul Calladine re-designed and updated the charity's website which includes the facility to donate money online and contracts manager Lottie Naylor provided direction and support to keep the project running smoothly.

Now the charity, based on Heanor Road, has finalised its strategic plan and has attracted new board members.

Manager Bren Butler said:

“We are in a good position and appreciate the help that we have received from the Partnership and its members.  Going forward we would like to support more families and would like to hear from potential parent volunteers and trustees.”

Partnership chief executive Ian Viles said:

“We were all delighted to help. It is very rewarding to support a third sector organisation and see such positive results.”
