Local businessman to soar across 210m high zip wire for charity

A thrill-seeking director from Leicestershire and Milton Keynes-based business KAM Project Consultants has volunteered to zip wire off a building in East London to raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Piers Ridout will be the first person to test the zip line in advance of a 2019 charity zip line event, being organised by the London Fire Brigade.

Piers is set to take the leap off Littlebrook Power Station’s chimney in East London, which will see him fly from the 210m high chimney, landing next to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge on 16 September.

With the aim of raising as much as possible for The Fire Fighters Charity, Piers will endure an hour climb up 21 storeys ahead of the leap to reach the chimney’s summit, which is four times the height of Nelson’s Column in London’s Trafalgar Square.

He said:

“Whilst I’m not sure what I’ve got myself into, I am excited to be raising funds for a charity which provides life-enhancing services to the fire and rescue community.

“I will be strapping on my GoPro camera to capture my descent and will be sharing this via the KAM Project Consultants Twitter page, so please follow my journey there, however you might hear me coming across the wire anyway!”

Piers joined KAM Project Consultants in 2015, which is a firm made up of highly-experienced project managers who deliver schemes across the industrial/distribution and varied commercial markets.

Kevin Sims, director at KAM Project Consultants, said:

“This is no mean feat and any donations to go towards this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. Plus, if any generous corporate donors would like to match or beat our donation of £1,000, Piers will shout their names as he soars across the zip wire!

“We’re really looking forward to seeing Piers complete this challenge and wish him the best of luck.”

Following him down the zip line in September is Jonathan Maher from Bericote Properties and Alex Hadden from Brown and Mason.
