Networking event on women's issues gives food for thought

WOMEN at a roundtable event in Nottingham discussed careers, promotions and the need for more females at board level.

The event, hosted by construction firm Willmott Dixon, tackled key topics – and women from leading organisations contributed to the discussion.

Michelle Cotterill, director at Willmott Dixon, said:

“In an era where it is still difficult for women to rise to board level, and as part of the ongoing Year of the Woman in 2018, we had a discussion around the issues holding women back.

“It is evident that there is a real skills gap developing and we cannot afford to sideline or hold back the 50% of the population who are women.”

MD of Cartwright Communications Liz Cartwright who chaired the event, said:

“Whether it’s mentoring or skills and training, or simply putting the spotlight on our senior female leaders, we wanted to discuss with female peers how we can together break down the barriers, and pave the way for talented young women just embarking on their careers. “

The event was also a chance to put a spotlight on key women leaders and initiatives being run by organisations, she said.

The roundtable was so well received that Willmott Dixon is hoping to continue the discussion through a number of speaker-led networking events – and mentoring schemes for women just starting their careers.

Women attended from Wheatcroft Land, Pick Everard, BSP Consulting, Longhurst Group, BDO UK LLP, Roythornes Solicitors, Knights, Scape, University of Nottingham, Cartwright Communications and RizkMcCay.
