School pupil scoops top prize in site safety poster competition

An imaginative pupil from Ecton Village Primary Academy has been crowned the winner of a health and safety poster design competition in a joint effort with David Wilson Homes to promote site safety at its development The Wickets in Earls Barton.

The homebuilder enlisted the help of the local school children to create a poster that aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of playing near building sites.

After receiving a variety of entries from the school, located nearby the homebuilder’s Main Road development, David Wilson Homes selected Kaitlyn (10) as the competition winner for her artistically designed poster.

The judges were particularly impressed with the use of colour and imagery to highlight the hazards of a building site, in addition to the value of information included.

Kaitlyn was presented with a £25 book token by Marketing Manager Anthony Richardson as a thank you gift for her design as well as helping David Wilson Homes promote site safety, and her entry will now be displayed in the developer’s marketing suite.

Jason Hearn, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes South Midlands, said:

“We have a number of families settling down at The Wickets so it’s important we highlight the dangers of building sites with school children from an early age.

“It’s our responsibility to make children aware of the hazards and we’re very grateful to Kaitlyn and the pupils of Ecton Village Primary Academy for helping us raise awareness of site safety.

“We would like to thank all of the pupils for participating in our poster competition. After receiving such high quality entries, we can see the children strongly understand the value of health and safety and we’re very pleased to have worked with the school on this project.”

Kate Cleaver, Principal at Ecton Village Primary Academy, said:

“The children were really excited to be working with David Wilson Homes. Many of the children who attend our school travel past the site, so they are aware of the new development.

“We used this as a learning opportunity to teach the children about the dangers of building sites and to work on their design skills, linking the activity to many areas of the school curriculum. The quality of the work they produced was excellent and we are really proud of Kaitlyn’s achievement.”

Homebuyers can currently choose from a range of three and four bedroom homes at The Wickets with prices starting from £262,995.
