One of the world’s leading social media experts to make international speaking debut in UK

World-renowned American social media pioneer Chris Strub has chosen the UK to make his overseas speaking debut.

The award-winning marketer and millennial keynote speaker will make his first appearance outside North America when he gives a talk at the 2018 MarketEd.Live conference in Nottingham on September 25.

The 30-year-old, from Huntington Station, New York, is no stranger to travel, having become the first person to live-stream and Snapchat in all 50 US states, which saw him cover 21,000 miles, mostly by car.

That led to Strub writing '50 States, 100 Days: The Book' about his solo, social media-powered adventure in 2015 to volunteer with youth-related organisations in all 50 states, and he is also ranked among the top 99.9 per cent of all social media users in Snapchat, streaming video, social media and non-profits.

Strub is the CEO of social media consultancy I Am Here, and in 2017 he visited Salvation Army locations in 25 states in 38 days along the 6,200-mile #FightForGoodTour, raising money as a national Red Kettle Ambassador.

But his trip to the Nottingham Contemporary art centre will be the first time he has travelled outside North America, having been invited to talk at MarketEd.Live by conference co-founder Paul Ince, who is based at Loughborough.

“I couldn't possibly be more excited to be coming to MarketEd.Live in September,” said Strub. “I've travelled to almost every corner of all 50 United States, and visited both Mexico and Canada, but this will be my first experience outside of North America.

“I've never before had the opportunity to travel outside of the US. Since college ended more than a decade ago, I've loved traveling domestically, and there are plenty of fun things to do around America. But it's exciting to remember that there's a whole new world out there to explore.

“Why did I choose MarketEd.Live to make this debut? It's all about the human connection. I met Paul Ince in February at Social Media Marketing World in San Diego, and despite being from different continents, we immediately clicked.

“With the skyrocketing growth of mobile social video, like Instagram Stories and Facebook Live, we are seeing brands and businesses being rewarded for embracing human-centric authenticity.

“Social media will never replace a human-to-human connection, but it can accelerate and multiply those connections -- and MarketEd.Live will be a tremendous opportunity for socially-savvy thinkers to come together to make those invaluable connections at scale.

“I cannot wait to get to MarketEd.Live, with a goal to connect personally with everyone in the crowd, both from the stage and in the networking phases surrounding the event.

“I know that my very first impression of life outside of the States will be special, and in return, I pledge to make the experience of my closing keynote equally as memorable for every single attendee.”

Strub’s attendance is a coup for Ince, who first launched MarketEd.Live only last year but has seen it escalate into one of the UK’s foremost marketing conferences.

“I’m really excited by having Chris Strub as our keynote speaker,” said Ince. “He is such an awesome, genuine guy who I had the pleasure of meeting in February, and since then we’ve been great friends. I can’t wait to have him over.

“MarketEd.Live is a conference created by marketers for marketers, and will provide a mixture of practical, hands-on, expert advice, and inspirational case studies from some of the best agencies, industry pros and brands.

“All our speakers and sponsors have been chosen to add value and provide utility to our fellow marketing professionals.”

Strub is one of 10 speakers at MarketEd.Live, including Fanbytes CEO Timothy Armoo, Content Marketing Academy founder Chris Marr, the Beano’s audience development editor Hollie Brooks, Podcast Websites head of content Hannah McCreesh, and EE head of comms Howard Jones among others.
