June 2018 New Co-op store coming to Beeston as plans approved for mixed-use scheme

Plans have been approved for a convenience store and 47 new homes close to Beeston town centre, paving the way for a new Central England Co-operative store.  

Developers have revealed that the Central England Co-op is to be the tenant for the new convenience store at the site fronting onto High Road where it meets Chilwell Road.

A joint project by Peveril Homes and Charterpoint Developments, the mixed-use scheme will feature 32 houses and 15 apartments, along with a Central England Co-op Food Store on part of the former Myford works site.

Charterpoint Director Giles Nursey said:

“This site is in a prime location, just a few hundred metres from Beeston town centre and close to a tram stop, and we are delighted that Charterpoint’s joint venture scheme with Peveril Homes has received full, detailed planning permission to bring a new convenience store and homes to the area.

“This is an exciting opportunity to create much-needed new housing close to the centre of Beeston and enhance the already great facilities of the town, with a new local Central England Co-op Food Store.”

The conditional planning approval from Broxtowe Borough Council relates to around three acres of land on the four-and-a-half-acre site, and as well as the homes and convenience store, it also includes approval for car parking and highways infrastructure.

Demolition work has been completed on the site and work on the convenience store, apartments and homes is expected to get under way later this year.

The whole site has previously been given outline planning permission for a mixed-use scheme including housing, retail, senior living, healthcare facilities and business uses.

The location on Chilwell Road is just a short five-minute walk from Beeston town centre and situated adjacent to the tram lines - as well as being in close proximity to other major public transport links to Nottingham and surrounding areas via bus and train. Beeston is also a short drive from the M1 and A52 - offering quick transport links to Derby, East Midlands Airport and Nottingham.

After securing the site last year, Edwalton-based Charterpoint Developments, part of the Charterpoint Group, set up a joint venture with Peveril Homes, part of the Bowmer & Kirkland Group, to develop the brownfield plot.

A separate planning application has been drawn up by Charterpoint, Peveril and care provider Belong for the remainder of the site. It includes proposals for a £15m care village featuring a 75-bedroom care facility, 30 supported living apartments and village centre amenities, including a bistro, which will be open to the public, a hair salon, exercise studio and function rooms. The application for planning permission has just been submitted to Broxtowe Borough Council.
