Run a marathon relay for LOROS

Teams of runners are invited to take part in the sixth Cummins Relay Challenge at October’s 2018 Leicester Marathon to raise money for the Leicestershire hospice LOROS.

More than £47,000 has been raised in the event’s first five years, and the organisers at Cummins Employment Solicitors are keen to take the running total beyond £60,000 this year.

The full or half marathon are available for teams of four runners from businesses, other organisations or family and friends. And for the first time this year, teams can take on the Half Marathon Team Challenge where all members run 13 miles.

Magdalena Korytkowska, partnership development lead at LOROS, said:

“It’s fantastic to see how the Cummins Relay Challenge is going from strength to strength.

“We are very grateful to Mike, Julie, Carmel and everyone from Cummins for putting such a fantastic event together. Their enthusiasm, kindness and generosity make a real difference to the work we do.”

The 2018 Leicester Marathon is on Sunday October 14, starting and finishing at Victoria Park. Last year 56 teams entered the Cummins Relay Challenge, raising more than £15,000 for LOROS.

The three options for 2018 are:

  • The Half Marathon Relay Challenge – four team members each run a 3.25 mile leg along the Half Marathon route, with a baton to pass from runner to runner
  • The Marathon Relay Challenge –  four team members each run a 6.5 mile leg along the Marathon route, also with a baton to pass
  • The Half Marathon Team Challenge – a team of between four and seven members all run the full distance of the Half Marathon route. The team result is the four fastest finishing times

The entry fee is £100 per relay team and £33 per runner for the Team Challenge, with every penny going to LOROS. Teams can register online at cummins-solicitors.com/relay-challenge

Michael Cummins said:

“I love pies, which is why I need to run, a lot. So, for all the pie lovers we have added the new Team Challenge this year. If you’re up for running 13 miles, this is the one for you.

“Whichever challenge teams take on, they will have great fun whilst getting fit plus raising money for LOROS, which cares for and supports patients and their families from across Leicestershire and Rutland.”

The Challenge starts and finishes alongside the Leicester Marathon at Victoria Park. Cummins Employment Solicitors do all the entry leg work and provide all the information and on-site refreshments, so runners just turn up and do their bit.
