SDL Group Director completes 560km challenge for charity

Paul Staley, PRS Director at Nottinghamshire-based property services company SDL Group has now returned from a gruelling 560km challenge, ‘Tower to Tower’, which saw him raise over £60,000 for children’s hospice The Donna Louise.

Part of a group of 12 people taking part in the challenge, Paul set off from the Eiffel Tower on Monday 28th May at 5am, cycling through France for 15 hours to the port of Le Havre, before rowing for 36 hours across The Channel to England. The sleep deprived fundraisers then started their final leg, a 100km trek from Brighton Marina to the Tower of London, where they completed the challenge at around 6pm on Thursday 31st May.

Organisers at The Donna Louise branded this as ‘the toughest and most grueling challenge yet’ and collectively the Tower to Tower team have raised over £240,000, double their initial target. Talking about their achievement Paul said:

“It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done, much harder than I ever thought it would be and it is something I will never forget. There have been many times throughout this challenge where I thought we were all broken and could not continue, but as a team we overcame every obstacle that was thrown at us.

“I think I can speak for the team and say that we are so overwhelmed by the support we have received from everyone and we are stunned and proud to have smashed our fundraising target.”

At the SDL Group, many colleagues have supported Paul’s efforts in the run up to the challenge by donating and fundraising through a variety of activities, with the Group even hosting its very own ‘Pub Quiz’ at its HQ in Chilwell to raise funds.

Support did not end there, as over 100 employees rowed, walked and cycled in a simulated version of the challenge clocking up over 200km in solidarity.

SDL Group’s, CEO, Paul Gratton said:

“Everyone at the SDL Group have really got behind Paul and the team, whether it has been donating money, getting involved in our simulator challenge or sending messages of support to spur the team on. It has been great to see everyone come together for this fantastic cause. We are all so proud of Paul and the team for completing such a tough challenge, and blown away by the amount of money he has raised!”
